Calcium Induced Promoter
This part is the promoter of the human prolactin (PRL) gene, which has been shown to be activated by increased levels of Ca2+ in cells. As there is little conclusive information about mammalian promoters other than they can be found in genetic control regions (usually upstream of the target gene), the genetic sequence was taken from the 2000 bases upstream of PRL in the human genome. Since this selection included a TATAA box, indicative of promoters that initiate at specific sites, it was possible to infer the presence of the PRL promoter.
